Government Drone Projects, Designed and Built in Iowa
Have a mission that off-the-shelf drones can’t handle? DroneX works directly with government agencies to turn ideas into working drone solutions. You bring the challenge, and we handle the rest. Whatever the mission, we can make it happen.
How government drone projects work
Every project starts with your need, “we need a drone that can do X”, and ends with a solution your team can fly.
Plan
We work with your team to define the requirements, timeline and budget for the project.
Design & build
Our in-house team designs and makes custom drones, parts and payloads at our shop in Ankeny, Iowa.
Deliver & support
We test before delivery, then keep your drones flying with repairs, parts and long-term fleet support.

Built for government requirements
Federal agencies, and many programs paid for with federal funds, can no longer buy drones from companies tied to countries of concern under the American Security Drone Act. Government drone projects need to be planned around those rules from day one, including the choice of parts.
We talk through the compliance rules that apply to your agency during planning, so the finished drone is one you can actually buy and fly.
What we can help with
From a single custom part to a complete aircraft, DroneX brings together drone repair, parts and manufacturing under one roof.
Custom drones & payloads
Aircraft and mounts built around your mission, whether that is spraying, mapping, inspection or research.
Custom parts
Brackets, mounts and replacement parts designed and made in-house. See our drone part manufacturing.
Government drone FAQ
Is DroneX registered in SAM.gov?
Yes. DroneX is registered in SAM.gov, so federal agencies can work with us directly. Contact us if your contracting office needs our registration details.
Who do you work with?
Federal, state and local agencies, public universities and extension services, and other public-sector teams with a drone need that off-the-shelf products don’t cover.
Can you build drones that meet NDAA requirements?
Yes, that is part of planning every government drone project. Tell us which rules apply to your agency and we will design the project around them.
Do you also sell ready-made drones?
Yes. For example, we sell the NDAA-compliant Hylio AG-272 spray drone. Ask us about other options for your agency.
